Engineers and legally trained people need to work together to regain the terrain lost by the citizens of the world to private firms and authoritarian states. These states are stealthily hijacking one of the most important global standardization organs, the Specialized Agency of the UN: The International Telecommunications Union. This cooperation between engineers and lawyers is even more necessary to safeguard the freedom that was brought by the evolution of the internet and the smartphone. Laissez faire is not an option, more dedicated effort is necessary to reconquering the lost terrain.
